What to Look for in a New Grill

June 5th, 2018 Category: Outdoor Kitchen

Are you and your family ready to ditch the kitchen this summer and start enjoying the sunshine and great outdoors?

Adding a grill to your outdoor space can give you back hours outside that you would otherwise be spending in the kitchen.

But where do you start? How do you decide what grill is a good fit for your personal needs and preferences?

Let’s look at some ways to narrow down the search.

What to Look for in a New Grill

Needs and Preferences

The first thing you’ll need to decide when looking at grills is what type of grill you want to purchase.

Charcoal grills provide excellent flavor and use an economical fuel source, but require more time and maintenance than gas grills. If you want a grill for quick and easy weeknight meals, gas may be the way to go.

If you intend to use your grill for smoking and slow cooking over the weekend, charcoal will be a better option as it imparts more flavor on whatever you are cooking.

Once you’ve decided which fuel you want for your grill, you’ll want to determine how large of a grill you will need.

Do you have a large family or entertain friends frequently? You’ll probably want a big grill so you can cook all of your food at the same time.

If, on the other hand, you are normally grilling for one or two, a small, or even portable grill may suit you just fine.

Additional Features

Another thing to consider when choosing a grill is what extra features, if any, you want included with your grill. By purchasing a grill that has a side burner you can limit your time cooking inside even more and increase the time you are spending outside.

Similarly, some grills come with interchangeable plates in them for things like pizza stones and vegetable baskets. The accessories you choose for your grill will depend on your cooking style, as well as your budget.

Budget

Once you have an idea what type of grill you’d like and what types of features you’d like your grill to have, you’ll have to settle on a budget.

Grills come in a wide range of price points with something for almost everyone.

Whether you have a large budget or small one investing in a quality grill can prevent you from replacing it soon down the road.
