3 Things You Should Never Do to Your Deck

October 3rd, 2018 Category: Decks

When you build your deck, you’re probably more focused on all the fun and adventure you’re going to enjoy on your new backyard feature. However, before you get rolling with all the fun you have planned, there are a few things that you should keep in mind as you relax and enjoy your deck whether it’s composite, natural, or otherwise.

A wet deck

Never Ignore Your Deck During the Off-Season

Though you may spend all summer laying out on your deck, you may not enjoy the outdoors as much once the weather is cold. It can certainly be difficult to remember to maintain various areas around your house when you aren’t using them on a daily basis, but forgetting to do it won’t make it go away.

Snow and ice should be cleared from your deck as it piles up to minimize the damage that it might do to the structure. Though ice and snow won’t necessarily harm your deck in reasonable amounts, it can weigh it down if the deck is already in sorry shape.

Never Ignore Structural Damage

If your deck’s structural integrity is suspect, then it’s time to get out there and fix it. A wobbly deck is a dangerous deck and a dangerous deck is no fun for anyone. Any loose boards or nails should be attended to as soon as you notice them.

Never Leave Grease or Stains Alone

Grease can wreak havoc on your deck, but only if left for long periods of time. Stains can and will appear wherever the grease remains. Not only that, but if it rains, that stain can spread from one little spot to a large surface area.

Though this may not seem like a big deal, a deck is an investment. At the end of the day, the more you care for it, the better it will serve you for years to come.
